We live in a world where God is a curse word, or something you say when you’re amazed or surprised at something. We live in a world where God is considered a crutch for those weak people who can’t do it by themselves, a fall back plan, or the One who you only pray to when you’re in trouble.
We don’t live in world where many people think or remember that God is the creator of everything, or that He is worthy of all our praise. We don’t live in a world where many people remember that Jesus the Christ, the Almighty God came down on this earth and died for our sins. He died for our sins! Hallelujah! He died so that we could get to know a God who loves us dearly; so that we could we walk with God.
And this is what I want to talk about: walking with God. Walking with God doesn’t just refer to going on a literal walk with God, walking with God talks about your life’s journey, about living your life for God. We get the term from the Bible verse from Genesis 5:24 where it says that a guy called Enoch walked with God.
Enoch walked with God. That is not some small statement. Enoch walked with God! He got to be associated with the creator of the universe, with the one who keeps us alive, who gives us life whether we want it or not and whether we appreciate it or not. And this same Awesome Almighty God offers to each one of us the chance to walk with Him, not just to be saved and go to heaven, but to walk with Him every single day of our lives.
But we Christians can spend more of our time ignoring God than living for Him, or even living with Him. That’s what I’ve noticed in my life anyway. There have been too many days that have ended with me realising that I hadn’t thought about God once. I can live like an atheist and I can do it well. I have wasted too many moments that God has given me, too many chances that I’ve had to get to know God even better. But God is faithful even when I am not. He has proved Himself again and again to me. He comes and meets me during my quiet times; He teaches me from His word: Whenever I open my Bible it’s not old and stagnant (something you’d kinda expect from a 2000 year old plus book) but new and fresh. Through the hard times when I would have preferred to forget He existed He came and reminded me how much He loves me. Without any doubt, He is so faithful to me.
That is why I want to talk to you about walking with God: not because I have a perfect to do list but because I know how much I have struggled, and still struggle, with God and with myself in this area, and also because I know how incredibly, incredibly faithful God is. I know that He wants to spend time with us and teach us, we can’t understand how much He wants to, but a lot is an understatement. He can’t wait, seriously He can’t (!) until we spend some time every day reading our bibles and praying. He comes and meets us as soon as we cry out to Him.
So, I encourage you, if you try your best to walk with God, to spend time with Him daily, keep persevering, I thank God for you!
If you have never really walked with God before, whether you’re a Christian who tends not to spend time with God every day, or someone who doesn’t even know Jesus as their Saviour, you are seriously missing out!
If you want to learn to spend time with God, He will show you how. He will put the desire for more in your heart, He will teach you to pray and He will help you understand what you’re reading in your Bible.
